Choosing Your Size

Every ear is different. The post length and hoop size that you will need depend on the exact placement and on the exact anatomy of your ear. For new piercings, we recommend a post length that is one size larger than standard to properly accommodate healing.

Do I need an appointment to get pierced?

While we do accept walk-in clients, we encourage everyone to make an appointment to ensure our piercer is available.

What piercing placements do you pierce?

We offer piercings in 11 different placements on the ear and nostril and septum piercings on the nose.

What size are your piercing and flatback earrings?

All piercing and flatback jewelry is 18g in size. Post length does vary between 5mm, 6.5mm, and 8mm.

What days do you offer piercing services?

We currently offer all piercing services every Thursday-Monday at our flagship location 623 Royal St, New Orleans, LA

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask that you cancel your appointment at least 12 hours in advance. Appointment fees on appointments cancelled within 12 hours of the appointment are non refundable. If you’d like to reschedule your appointment to a different day or time, we ask that you call our store (800) 585-0348.

What is the recommended after care practice?

  • Always remember to treat your piercing like a fresh wound (because it is!).
  • To care for your new piercing we recommend spraying your PL saline on the front and back of your piercing twice per day. No head submerging for 2-3 weeks. No touching, twisting, pushing or pulling your new piercing.
  • Do not pick your crusties as they are a good sign new skin is forming. Crusties will fall off on their own when they are ready.
  • It is best practice to avoid sleeping on your new piercing. We recommend sleeping with an airplane neck pillow or piercing pillow to avoid unnecessary pressure on the piercing.

What is normal on a new piercing?

  • Crusting, bruising, swelling and dried blood are all normal for a fresh piercing.
  • If you are experiencing a concerning amount of any of the above, please pop in to see our piercer for a check up.

Can I get pierced if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

We will not pierce any client who is pregnant or breastfeeding. We want to give mom and baby the best of the body’s immune system and not overwhelm it with a fresh wound.

What is the maximum number of piercings I can get in an appointment?

We only pierce a max of 3 piercings per session to not overwhelm the body’s immune system. We recommend waiting at least 2 weeks between sessions to give your body space to acclimate.

What age do I have to be in order to get pierced?

We pierce all clients 13+. Please refer to our piercing guide to know what is required for your piercing appointment.

What is included in a piercing appointment?

A style and anatomy consultation with our piercing specialist, a needle piercing, and PL aftercare saline are all included with your piercing appointment.

Do you pierce with a needle or a piercing gun?

We only use hollow, single use needles for all of our piercings! Never guns!

Can I bring my own piercing jewelry?

You can not bring your own piercing jewelry, unless it has been purchased at Porter Lyons. We only pierce with our solid 14k gold flatback piercing studs.

Can I get pierced with a hoop?

We do not pierce with hoops. We only pierce with our solid 14k gold piercing flatbacks. You are able to graduate your piercing to a hoop once it has fully healed.

How long will it take for my piercing to heal?

General heal times are 4-6 months for lobes, 6-9 months for helix piercings, 8-12 months for rook, daith and antitragus and 6-8 months for nostril and septum piercings.

Can I reuse my piercing jewelry?

Unfortunately, we can not pierce with jewelry that has already been used for a piercing. You must purchase a new piercing earring with each piercing appointment.
